“See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are.”
1 John 3:1

Positive or negative, family always brings up strong emotions.

No matter your family situation, the depth of feelings it brings shows that we were created for family. In the best situation, you have been given unconditional love. You know that you don’t have to earn your place and that you don’t chose family. In the worst situations, you know the depth of pain attached to family gone wrong. There is a design of God in giving us a family and when that goes wrong we feel it and carry the scars with us.

No matter your earthly family situation, we have all been invited into the family of God.

Jesus walked the earth with us as a great intercessor between us and his father. He showed us who his Father was and how he had come invite us into the family of God, making a way for us to know Him. Jesus paid the great cost of adoption by giving his life so that we might live in the joy we were created for in the family of God.

When we understand how little we deserve to be in God’s family, we can finally grasp the sacrifice of Jesus. For the joy set before him, Jesus shared his inheritance in the family of God with us. How great is the love the Father has lavished upon us that we might be called sons and daughters of God.

Is it hard to view God as your father? Are wounds from your earthly family gone wrong affecting your view of your heavenly Father? This week we pray that you will experience God as your father, and that you will learn to live out of the joy that being a part of God’s family brings. Take some time to process and journal what it means that you are a part of the family of God. If you want to be a part of the family of God and have not made that decision to accept the adoption given to you through Jesus, ask your village leader!
