Because Jesus faced the cross, we can have access to God’s family.
As Jesus faced the cross, he turned to his Father in prayer. In his darkest moment, he turns to the only Hope. God the Father is the only constant and consolation in time of stress and sorrow.
Jesus invites his family on mission, the disciples, into that prayer with him. Even when Peter, one of his closest friends, denies knowing him Jesus still calls him family. Though we are faithless, he is ever faithful. He faces the cross for those who betrayed him and all of us who have also denied him time and time again.
Read Luke 22:31-71 today and ask God to remind your heart what it means that Jesus has paid the adoption fee for you. No matter how many times you have denied him, he has paid it all for you to be a part of the family of God. Let us not take our status as his sons and daughters for granted. A great cost has been paid for you to bear that name. Let us live a life worthy of the name above all names that has granted his righteousness to cover our sin, our error, our missing the mark time and time again, our shortcomings.
But when the set time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those under the law, that we might receive adoption to sonship. Because you are his sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, “Abba, Father.” So you are no longer a slave, but God’s child; and since you are his child, God has made you also an heir.
