Nehemiah 3

These kinds of chapters in the Old Testament are always hard to read. Mostly because I have no idea how to pronounce any of the names. However, this is important because it’s in God’s living breathing word. He wanted us to know those names and which part of the wall they built. Why? He was showing the obedient response to the call and challenge of Nehemiah in chapter two. It is an image of God’s people working together to build up something for the glory of God amongst the nations.

Doesn’t this sound familiar to you?

It should because we have a similar call today. There is a mission - it is incomplete and we are called to rise up and make disciples of all nations (Matthew 28:19). God always had the nations in mind and promises he will be exalted amongst the nations (Psalm 46:10). What is keeping down a servant of the Most High God? Has he not like many before to rise up and to proclaim the gospel, that all tongues should praise the name of Jesus above all else?

This chapter is to remind us that God uses our labor to proclaim to the ends of the earth who is the one true God - it is the I AM. Will you rise and participate, even if it is to build a gate in the rebuilding of a wall?
