TIMOTHY SPURGEON

MULTIPLIER | BELLINGHAM TEAM

In January of 2016, I was introduced to Resonate Church as a senior in high school. I had no real idea who Jesus was until the sermon series False, where Keith preached on Jesus freeing us from our guilt, shame, envy and anger. The more that I heard about a God who did not condemn me, but instead loved me, the more I desired to know Him. I got involved in a freshman village, taught myself how to read the Bible and would spend Tuesday evenings after school, rewatching Sunday’s sermons trying to soak up and learn as much as I could. I decided to follow Jesus and make Him Lord of my life that March and have been trying to live in obedience and make disciples who make disciples since then.

I jokingly like to explain to the freshmen I meet that I get paid to make friends. In all seriousness, my job is to live towards the freshmen here at WWU. What that means is when you look at my schedule, 90% of it is filled with one on one coffee meet ups, dorms hang outs, or dinner plans. I really do become their friends, share my life with them and share Jesus. Not only do I try to be their friend, but I use my influence in their life to share who Jesus is; and if they are disciples of Christ, develop them into the leaders and disciplemakers God has called them to be. I serve on the Freshman Ministry Team. This means my focus is on the Freshmen here at Western Washington University. My hope is to multiply myself into the men who come into contact with Resonate. I desire to see these freshmen guys grow into solid Christian men who love the Lord, and step up and begin to pursue their roommates, coworkers and classmates.

Ever since deciding to follow Jesus, I have had men in my life come alongside me and teach me who Jesus is. They have encouraged me, affirmed me, challenged me, and rebuked me. After each one on one, huddle, and meeting I have experienced, I have felt my affections for Jesus and His mission stir. I deeply desire for Jesus to be known and for the freshmen guys here at Western to have their affections for Jesus to grow. I deeply desire for God to use me the way He has used other men in my life to affect this campus. I firmly believe that if we want to see Heaven on WWU’s campus, it begins with discipleship.

Through your prayers and financial support, I can put 100% of my focus on these students. Through financial giving, I have no need to worry about balancing a job and being on campus. To know that I have people willing to give their finances towards my ministry, and more importantly their time to be praying for me and my ministry brings more joy than you realize. With your support, I know I am not alone in this.
