Luke 24

No imagery or metaphorical explanation is sufficient to compare to the context of Luke 24, the crux of our faith as Christians and really the entire universe is explained to us in this chapter.

As I read I couldn’t help but think about being in the shoes of the women who first found the empty tomb or the disciples as Jesus interrupts saying “Peace to you.”. What a moment. All knew that he was dead, and along the way should've been picking up on the prophetic vision he was sharing, that he would rise again. However, this had never been seen before, no man had defeated death. The women and the disciples were shocked as they experienced this truth coming to life.

We may not have been there, but when we read this scripture, what if our response was the same as those who were. What if we were in joyous shock as they were. What if we received this truth as if Jesus was communing with us. Well, he is communing with us. Through the Holy Spirit and faith in Christ he does commune with us, this joyous shock should occur in our souls when we reckon with Jesus being raised from the grave, defeating death, offering life, and changing our eternities. Instead we often battle internally about how such a thing could happen, the human race speculates skeptically that this could be true. The disciples did too, even being there in the flesh with him. Jesus assures them and then they respond in shock, wonderfully telling others, and communing with him before he departs. I know we aren’t in person with Christ, but he also isn’t departing from us. We have an opportunity to respond the same way the disciples did.

Read this passage in awe of its one of a kind out of this world truth. Commune with Christ. Receive the Holy Spirit at salvation and receive its power every day. Run to tell others with awe and joy about the truth of Christ. Praise God for sending his son for us, praise God for the resurrection. Praise God for calling us into a relationship with Him. Let us respond in glorifying our Savior.
