Sermon on the Mount: Matthew 6:19-24

Matthew 6:19-24, Matthew 19:16-30

This text is fairly simple - Jesus is calling his followers to choose a master: money or God.

It’s easy to think we serve when it seems like we don’t have a lot of money. What Jesus is saying to us is money represents something to us that we cannot get from both money and God. Most of us see that amount in our bank accounts with feelings of security or raging anxiety. Or maybe it’s not a security issue, but a comfort issue. Money is a means to a comfortable life through purchasing that comfort candy, comfort sweater, or just a life that shows you are okay financially.

Money cannot be the foundation of our security or our comfort. This is what Jesus is saying, we cannot serve two masters. To live in the Kingdom of Jesus is to serve one Master - the Most High God. So church, what lies are you believing about money? What is the false story you are hearing that money will provide for you? Because all it will do is collect dust here on earth. The treasure of the kingdom Jesus is inviting us into is forever. The story of Christ is true and the things he offers us are eternal.

What aspect of money are you making master in your life? Repent, surrender and believe in the eternal treasure Jesus is offering you today.
