Sermon on the Mount: Matthew 7:24-27

Matthew 7:24-27, 2 Timothy 3:16

Think of the most severe storm you have ever experienced. Think about huge waves crashing against the shore. Think about the heavy wind and rain coming down with full force. Life will bring experiences where we feel like these storms are aimed directly at us. This truth by itself is frightening.

But Jesus gives us hope with his teaching here in these several verses.

Here Jesus has been for the last few chapters teaching and sharing his wisdom with the crowd. Here, at the end of the sermon he gives two options. You can not listen to his words, build your house on sand, and watch it crumble in the storm. Or, you can listen to his word and obey it, build your house on the rock and watch it stand in the midst of life’s greatest challenges.

So that storm, the severe storm you called to memory, when that storm comes in life you have hope. Your hope is Christ’s word and obedience to it.

Be ready for the storm, Church, be implored to read God’s word, know it, and obey it.
