Psalm 138

Psalm 138

I studied engineering, work as an engineer, and spent a lot of time with engineers. The mind of an engineer is process-oriented, there is an input, a process, and a result. This passage describing an interaction David had with the helping hand of God operates the same way. It also provides a blueprint for how we can interact with God’s hand in our life.

Input: David knew his need and humbly called out. (Verse 3a)

Process: God provides help and protection. (Verse 3b)

Result: David praises God and trusts him to help move forward. (Verse 4-8)

There is an input, a process, and a result. A lot of times in engineering you start with an input, watch the process, and end up with a bad result. You go back to square one. That is what happens when we as people try to handle or take on our problems on our own. But there is a process that has been proven successful time after time.

Know your need, humbly receive the Lord's help, praise him and trust him moving forward. This is what happens at the moment of salvation, but we often need to remind ourselves that this is what we need to do every day when we meet a challenge or reach the end of ourselves.

Recently I have been relying on myself too much in ministry. I need to know my need and come to God with that need. God will lead me in and provide for my ministry. Where are you using a bad process of self reliance? There is a better process for you, know your need and let God help you, his power ensures a beautiful result.
