Rahab

Joshua 2, 6:22-23, Matthew 1:5, Hebrews 11:31, James 2:25

As we read we see that the spies of Joshua, the leader of Israel went into the home of Rahab. Rahab was a prostitute. And not the glamorized kind you see in movies like “Pretty Woman.” Rahab’s profession meant that she lived as an outcast, on the edges of society. Rahab’s house was built right into the city wall, it provided both lodging and favors to travelers passing by. Because her house was built into the wall, Rahab was especially vulnerable to attack. The city was anxious and afraid, and although Rahab experienced some of those same feelings, she put her trust in the Lord. Rahab sensed that the Israelites relied on a God that was worth trusting. Rahab was willing to risk everything, for a God she barely knew, and in return her faith was rewarded. Not only was she an outcast in her own society, she was not an Israel - but her faith in the truth of the Most High God of Israel led her to her salvation.

God doesn’t look at outward appearances like we do, He looks at the heart and often uses those rejected by others to bring glory to himself. When we are thinking about who to live missionally toward, we shouldn’t judge based on who we think might want to know God, but ask the spirit to lead us.

Rahab’s life is an example of what true faith looks like, as you process todays passage this week, ask God to put someone on your heart to live missionally toward and make a plan to meet up with them this week.
