Psalm 24

Psalm 24, Galatians 5:17, 1 Corinthians, Matthew 4:7-11

There will always be a battle in this world and it could be big or small. Between nations, like we see in Ukraine. Between two political parties or stances in cultural debates. What to eat for dinner, whether to buy that house, a feud between two friends, a severed familial relationship… there will always be some type of “battle” just depends on what it is.

When scripture talks about a battle, it usually always goes back to this verse in Galatians 5:17 which describes the battle between flesh and spirit. Or it could refer to the battle between satan and God, how Satan is a “god” of this world. Now it doesn’t mean that Satan has authority but instead pictures him as a ruler of a land.

In Psalm 24, God is clearly displayed as the owner, king, and sovereign of this world. Nothing is out of his control nor is anything forgotten by him. In fact, the world is not just his but the earth in its fullness. He is the creator and sovereign of people, things, places, national parks, harvests, and wealth… and He is worthy of worship. He does not change or shift (24:4) and because of that He is worthy of righteousness and glory.

Jesus was once tempted by satan (Matthew 4:7-11) in the wilderness. In an interesting set of circumstances, Satan tries to offer Jesus the very thing the serpent offered Adam and Eve, all of the knowledge they could have. Jesus does not follow the footsteps of Adam and Eve and instead rebukes the schemes of the enemy.

Brothers and sisters, do not forget that there is still a very present enemy who seeks to steal, kill and destroy. Although, you have a King of Glory that can withstand every scheme and still have His best laid out for you. Does that mean it will feel good every time? No. But does that mean that God is against you? No. You are under the sovereignty of an all-powerful God who does not change, praise God that we can place our trust in Him!
