Advent // Introduction
Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all things for the glory of God. - 1 Corinthians 10:31
Our lives are for the glory of God. God loves his glory, and he should. It is the most beautiful thing, and it is worthy of all praise and worship we could ever give. Advent is the liturgical season of waiting, expectation, and preparation for the celebration. Israel waited for the Messiah, and now over 2,000 years later, we remember the waiting for Jesus to come the first time as we await his return. Until then, this Christmas season, I encourage you to study the stories of God’s glory and magnificence throughout the Bible. As we explore his glory through so many different people’s lives, situations, and moments of history, let the life of scripture take you to a place of wonder.
Church, could this season be a point in which we become a people who always wonder about God? About his glory, his love, his kindness, his miracle works, and everything else about him. Psalm 1:2 says, “But his delight is in the Law of the Lord,
And on His Law he meditates day and night,” and I exhort you, my fellow brothers and sisters, to be people who meditate on the law. Yet, don’t stop there! Mediate on the very character of God, the person of Jesus, the truths that are in every dot and stroke of each narrative, poem, law, song, letter, and the gospel of the Bible.
Let this season of remembrance and expectation lead us to worship in wonder about our God. Our King. Our Saviour. Our Jesus as we celebrate the deep joy of his birth.
