God’s Glory Through Wisdom

Proverbs 1:1-7, Proverbs 2:1-6 , Romans 12:2 & John 17: 15-19

Before you start journaling or processing what you read, I want you to really sit and reflect on the last time you felt reverence for God. Think about what stirred those effections, where were you when you had that moment, what season of life were you going through?

Wonder:

When you think of that time and see where you are now, what  is stopping you from finding awe in God’s glory?

The main contrast in Proverbs 1:1-7 is between wisdom and foolishness within ourselves. “The simple believes every word, but the prudent considers well his steps” (Proverbs 14:15). When scripture talks about giving prudence to the simple, it is indicating that you may be leaving your mind dangerously open; being gullible. You may have opinions, but it may lack deeply thought-through convictions. Wisdom, on the other hand, is a gift from God and is the path to the life he intends (2:6) Because all people are born dead in their sins and enslaved to foolishness, only God can deliver people from their sinful ways of living.

“Let the wise hear and increase in learning,

And the one who understands obtain guidance”

The book of Proverbs can provide you wisdom and instruction, and ultimately leave us in awe of who God is and what He can do in our lives. Lean in to what the Lord is pushing you in and how you can gain a more intimate relationship with our Father. We receive guidance from our Heavenly father, and this is a true gift. In Romans 12:2, it warns us against the temptation to conform to the popular culture and manner of thinking that is a rebellion against God. We may experience a lot of this weight internally and have to resist the mindset of worldliness, and fight to have the mind of a believer.

Wonder:

Where do you find yourself not leaning into what God is teaching you? What causes those distractions?

“I do not ask that you take them out of the world, but that you keep them from the evil one.

They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth. As you sent me into the world, so I have sent them into the world. And for their sake I consecrate myself, that they also may be sanctified in truth.” John 17:15-19

Jesus does not leave us to sanctify ourselves, but he prayed for His disciples sanctification, and this is the work of God in us and through us. If we were taken from this world, we would be denied the opportunity to serve Jesus in the same place we have sinned against Him.

Wonder:

What are you learning about him and how does that push you to serve him?
