Love Pt. 2

1 John 4:11-15 & 19-21, John 13:34-35, 1 John 3:16-18, Matthew 28:19-20

God calls us to love one another so that we may glorify Him. God calls us to share the gospel, the story of His love and sacrifice for us, to glorify Him. 

Just as God has loved us we are to love another, and by this, God will abide in us, His character will be seen in us, and He will be known through our love. The Holy Spirit helps us live out God’s love. When the Holy Spirit descended in Acts 2, followers of Jesus were given the Holy Spirit to be witnesses to Christ. So if we know God, we know love, and since we have the Holy Spirit, we have the ability to show God’s sacrificial love and truth to those around us. 

We don’t only put God’s display on love by living in a self sacrificial, other-oriented love, we also showcase His love by sharing the gospel. Jesus made no mistake before leaving earth he called his disciples to go make disciples of all nations in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and to teach them of the commandments he had given. John 13:34 says “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another…”. Here he calls the disciples to go to the nations and make disciples, and to teach the commandments, including the commandment to love one another. 

Share the gospel, the story of Jesus' death and resurrection, his sacrifice, and God’s love. Teach his commandments, teach followers of Christ to love others. 

Christ commands us and the Holy Spirit empowers us. We must share the gospel. We must make disciples of all nations. We must understand God’s love, be God’s love, and share God’s love. 

Where do you need to respond to the commandments Jesus gives us? Where do you need to be love or share God’s love? We are called into being His love and living on mission, take some time to reflect on how you can glorify God and display His love this week.
