Genesis 1-3

Genesis 1-3

In the beginning, the stage is set and we see God at the center. His intentionality, power and purpose are all on display as He uniquely forms the world. Free from problems, and full of promise, we see a world laid out with God’s Glory on display. Genesis sets the stage for the entire Bible. We see God’s character as creator, sustainer, judge, and redeemer. We see the value and intentionality given to His creation, the tragedy and consequences of sin, and the promise of restoration.

As we read through this book we will be confronted by the harsh reality of human nature, but as we read in Genesis 2 we are made in the Image of God. In Christ we are free to reflect that image well and no longer are burdened with the captivity of sin. Genesis the beginning starts with foreshadowing of the coming King and His Kingdom. Sin will plague our bodies here on earth, but one day, we will be brought home again restored to the beauty we see in the Garden of Eden. Man and God together again, just as it was always meant to be.

As we read through Genesis may we be encouraged. The God who spoke things into existence has an everlasting covenant with His people and not even the powers of sin and death can take that away. We are His, and He is ours.
