My freshman year of college was one of the hardest years of my life. I experienced a lot of homesickness, anxiety, and loneliness due to lack of community. I got involved with Resonate church at the end of my sophomore year, when I began to attend one of their weekly villages. After a while, one of my village leaders expressed that she saw leadership potential in me and encouraged me to consider joining the freshmen ministry team in the fall. It was clear to me that the experiences I had my freshman year had given me the ability to empathize with incoming freshmen. I knew firsthand how they had to figure out what life looks like away from home, and just as I had, many would experience uncertainty and insecurity, amongst other challenges in this time. I knew that it was a desire of my heart to care for and mentor freshmen, so I chose to get involved. I helped lead a freshman village my junior year and began leading girls in small groups. I got to see the challenges and the absolute joys of freshmen ministry, and it was one of the most fulfilling parts of my junior year.
I kept choosing to say yes to each door that the Lord opened for me in ministry, and eventually that led to me saying yes to becoming an intern for the freshman ministry team during my final semester of college. I had thought about joining staff full-time for Resonate, after college, but had so many fears about choosing to do this instead of getting a 'traditional job'. But something that has been so clear to me, is that the Lord has already written a story for my life better than anything I could have imagined. He radically changed my life after my freshman year, providing me with the sweetest gift of love and community. Everything I learned in college has renewed my passion for the transforming power of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and has given me a desire to see college students' lives transformed by it!
I earned a degree in Human Development and Communication because I love connecting with people and seeking to understand them deeply, in order to know how to meet their needs. I have a passion for speaking truth and working to improve the things around me. As a multiplier I am in a role where I get to see potential in students and help them build their skills and leadership capacity. Working specifically with the freshman ministry team, my main role is to help student leaders engage in leadership development and to help teach and equip them as they are learning to lead others! I am so excited to be a part of this team and see how the Lord moves in the lives of freshmen here in Pullman!
