Christ the Light

John 1:6-13

What’s highlighted in previous Gospels is Jesus’ birth. In reading about Jesus’ birth, we also learn about the conception and birth of John the Baptist; this is who the disciple, John, is referring to in verse 6. John the Baptist repeatedly denied that he was the coming Messiah and instead pointed the glory and fame to Jesus (Matthew 3:11) and shared that someone mightier was coming after him, which confirmed this passage in John 1.

The deity of Jesus is often questioned by other beliefs, and this passage is used to inform other beliefs about the Lordship of Christ. We dedicated our lives to Christ whose light is given to everyone. He was able to find the perfect balance of being in the world but not of the world. This is often a hard reality for us today! It’s tempting to want to fall into what society says is relevant or true, but this is ever-changing.

The world is bonded together by the blood of Christ. Jesus’ death and resurrection is available to anyone who has repents and believes that Jesus is Lord! For those who receive the Holy Spirit power in that decision, we take on the new identity of being children of God. We are even with the rest of humanity in that we have all fallen short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23) and now we get to walk in the true light!

In what ways have you been tempted to fall into what the world says is relevant when it goes against God’s Word?

What’s hard about submitting to God in the midst of the world?

How can you continue to choose Him and the light that is offered to you?
