Judges // Week 4
My son has a very timid spirit and has since he was born. As much as I would like to blame it on the fact that he was born during a pandemic, as I watch him grow it has become clear that is just how he is. Always asking questions, weighing risks and hesitant to do anything unless I am right beside him. Bravery is something we have had to intentionally teach him. With each introduction, meal ordered, and jungle gym conquered there is much celebration in our house. Although my son still struggles to say hi to someone new if Iām not there, I am thankful that my presence brings him comfort and he can continue to grow with me right there beside him.
We see this same idea reflected with Deborah and Barak. Deborah was faithful to share with Barak what God had told her and when he responded with trepidation, she gently obliged and went along to support him. When we are spiritual parents, we must not forget the spiritual condition of those being led. True leaders are concerned about the people they lead, not just their successes.
God leads us much the same. He knows each fear, insecurity and weakness that we have, yet promises that those very things will make us strong (2 Corinthians 12:9). And in the same way a child finds comfort in the presence of their mother, we too can find comfort in the presence of God because He promises that He will be with us always even to the end of the age (Matthew 28:20).
