Do you Trust God?

Lamentations 5:19-22

Lamentations doesn’t end resolved. It simply ends. We responded with a huge “What?!” when we arrived at chapter 5. This is fitting for human life.

Resolve has yet to be promised to us.

Fairytale endings don’t exist - we live in a depraved, utterly broken world. Resolution is not promised to us; neither is understanding of our circumstances. In our mourning, we can ask God to explain our suffering. Often, that clarity is presented at the moment to us, or ever on this side of heaven. Could we be okay with that?

I think that is what is happening here at the end of Jeremiah. It is a cry out to God without an explanation.

Yet, we see Jeremiah remind himself of who God is. That is LORD - Yahweh. His rule is forever. His throne and reign are eternal. That only restoration comes from the Lord.

In our despair, we often forget who we are actually crying out to - the Most High God, King Jesus, who defeated death through his own suffering and power. Could we practice in our suffering to remind ourselves that God is who he says he is and trust in him and his promises? Could we trust a God who may not give us the resolve or understanding of our despair and suffering?

Spend some time today talking to God about trusting him. Invite the Spirit to search you and know you and reveal where you distrust God, especially in moments of grief, and ask him to heal it and guide you to a deeper trust in him.
