Nehemiah 9, Psalm 127:1-5

The first couple of verses set a sort of strange scene. Once the wall was finished the Israelites were drawn to deep repentance and humility. The act of fasting and wearing sackcloth and dirt on their head was all a symbolic and reverent moment to establish that the normal comforts that once met their need could no longer satisfy. The building of the wall, the orchestration of the people, protection from enemies, and the work of the Holy Spirit revealed to them that all they were doing was in vain if it wasn’t to serve God.

This passage should draw us into a deeper understanding of God’s work in our life. Whether its good or not there is truth to believe that it is for OUR good. It points to the glory of who God is and why we need Him.

So today, I encourage you to think through the last 24 hours, maybe even the past week, and identify moments where you felt anxious, doubtful, or fearful. Now, notice the moments of joy and respond in thankfulness. I know it might feel a little strange but this exercise is to not make you feel guilty or shameful. Instead, it should help you point to how God is moving through you and around you.
