Parable of the Rich Man & Lazarus
Luke 16:19-31
The rich man lived a life full of indulgence, giving into the desires of his flesh. Lazarus lived a life of suffering, scraping by day after day. Their lives were indicative of their eternity. Now being rich and enjoying life is not a sin. Yet, the rich man led it to lead him to a life of selfishness, greed, and the oppression of others. Lazarus, covered in wounds, lived at his gate and begged for just the scraps of his table, dying never getting any. In turn, the rich man paid for his sins and lived in Hades, being tormented for eternity. In this parable, he wants his brothers to repent of what he never did - he needs them to listen to the message that Jesus presented. This creates an urgency in us - not frantic living, but ones lived intending to live and seek out every opportunity to share the gospel when we can. We should not hate the rich men of this world, but we should pray for all people to come face to face and repent. Asking God to save all people so that they would be spared the just wrath of God and experience the undeserving grace of God forever and ever. Let us be people who are bold in our witness that those who hear would repent and believe.
Where in your life do you need to be bold?
Where does the word urgency lead to frantic living instead of purposeful living, seeking and creating opportunities to share the gospel?
