In the Beginning God Sends
Genesis 3:14-15, 2 Corinthians 5:20-21
This new devotional series is all about how God is a sending God; He sends His people for His purposes. God uses any circumstance for His good and glory, so what do we think when the story doesn’t go as planned? That there was a mix up? God isn’t in control like we thought? We’ve done enough to throw off His plan? I hope that through the next couple of weeks, you see how God uses brokenness to redeem the world - this is something we see from the very beginning.
When Adam and Eve committed the first sin by eating the fruit, it’s easy to see it as lost hope. They had ONE job and messed it up; what do we do now? God is quick to act and thus brings the first Gospel message into the Bible.
14 The Lord God said to the serpent, “Because you have done this, cursed are you above all livestock and above all beasts of the field on your belly you shall go, and dust you shall eat all the days of your life.15 I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring; he shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel.”
When God refers to “he” in verse 15, he is referring to Jesus. Jesus came to earth as a means to crush the serpent once and for all. Putting death to death and bringing hope to those who have faith in Him. When Adam and Eve ate the fruit, the serpent thought that was a win, but it ultimately led to his destruction. God did not wait to send his message of redemption to Adam and Eve. He did not wait to tell them that His Son would come to bruise the head of the serpent. He did not wait to give them hope for the reconciliation found through His son.
In the coming weeks you will read stories of endurance, boldness, faith, and obedience. All those things are required to live into the identity given to us as ambassadors of Christ (2 Corinthians 5:20). We can rest in these Genesis 3 scriptures today that our brokenness is something that God can use to bring people back to Him. He can use all sorts of circumstances to prove His sovereignty and hope.
