Sumbission

Luke 22:39-42, Ephesians 5:22-6:9, Philippians 2:3-10, Psalm 139:23-24

Submission isn’t often thought of as something positive. In our society, submission has more to do with oppression and unequal rights than it does with bringing life and flourishing. Submission can feel scary, when you submit yourself you are vulnerable.

Submission is in the very nature of God. Father, son and spirit all submitted to one another. Jesus, reflects this in the garden when He submitted to the Father’s will despite desiring something different. Submission isn’t meant to be a power move, but more so a depiction of honor and respect. In love, one gives up their own rights for those of another.

When we make disciples, we are putting the discipline of submission into practice. We leave our comfort zone to seek others out because the Father has commanded us to. We give up our time, space and resources to others because we desire for them to know Jesus. We give our huddle leaders authority to speak into our lives, allowing them to lead us in a way worthy of our calling. These are little acts of submission that bring great glory to God.

As you process the scriptures, we read today, spend some time praying Psalm 139:23-24 and practice joyfully submitting your heart to the Lord. If you are still trying to figure out what you believe, take a leap of faith today and submit your life to the Lord. Our Heavenly Father is trustworthy and worth giving our lives to. Listen to His promptings and allow Him to lead you in the way everlasting.
