Israel’s Exile
Daniel 1, Romans 8:28
God’s people had turned away from Him, and as the prophets had warned, destruction came upon the people. The Israelites were held captive in Babylon for 70 years. 70 years! That is an entire lifespan for some people.
Daniel is an excellent example of faithfulness to God and perseverance during a season when God seems silent. Daniel clings to his faith amidst trials, hopelessness and even governmental opposition to his faith. Daniel was committed to serving God, and because of that we see him used in mighty ways throughout the Israelites exile.
Daniel was one of the first captives taken to Babylon, and yet he lived to see the first exiles return to Jerusalem. Throughout his time in captivity, Daniel honored God and in return, God honored him. Although Daniel did not know the purpose of his captivity, He trusted God to remain faithful to His people.
As believers, there will be many circumstances that don’t make sense to us, but we must remember to trust the One who is in charge. Romans 8:28 promises that, “God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to His purposes.” God used Daniel to speak to a wicked nation about Himself, it is promised that He will use our trials for good.
As you process today’s scripture, ask yourself this questions:
Do you really believe that God is good even in the midst of hardship?
Pray that God would help your unbelief and embrace trials with faith.
