Noah
Genesis 6, Genesis 7:1-12, Genesis 8:13-22
The story of Noah is one of the most well known bible stories there is. We have all heard of the giant flood that wiped out all humanity, apart from Noah, his family, and one of each animal and the symbol of a rainbow that reminds us that God promised never to do that again. What we don’t often talk about when it comes to this story is the forgetfulness of mankind.
Earth was no longer the paradise that God had created it to be. All of humanity forgot about God except for Noah and his family. And his faithfulness and obedience saved his life. This should be a warning to us. How often is it to forget things that aren’t right before us? How often have you opened a text message, not responded, borrowed something from someone, and repeatedly forgot to return it because it had been put away somewhere out of sight?
Engaging in spiritual disciplines is vitally important not only for our spiritual growth but also for our memory. If we don’t regularly remind ourselves of God’s word, character, view of sin, and mercy, we will forget. We can’t rely on a few impactful moments in our faith; we must be daily in the scriptures, in prayer, and in community being reminded of who God is.
As you process Noah’s story today, plan to remember God each day this week and text that plan to your huddle leader. Remembrance isn’t just for God, but it’s for us.
