The Church & Eternity
Acts 1:8, Acts 2:1-4, 42-47, Acts 8:1-3, Philippians 2:1-18, Revelation 7:9-10, Revelation 21:1-7
We’ve read through God’s narrative of salvation starting in Genesis, stopping here and now, looking towards eternity.
God’s salvation isn’t finished in the book of Acts, but it is the picture of how salvation will be brought to the image we see in Revelation 7. Every knee from every tribe, tongue, and person will bow before the throne of the Lamb. Our King has reigned, is reigning, and will continue to reign forever.
And He is inviting us to be a part of that work. We see that the church is established as Jesus told Peter. They gather to commune, eat, drink, have conflict, worship, be taught, and lead through their sanctification. Jesus sends them to their neighbors and beyond. We see in Acts 8 that the Spirit lifts Philip to share the gospel with an Ethiopian eunuch! That invitation is still offered today, but we often take it for granted. The “church” has always been freely around us, yet we forget how crucial it is to God’s plan. We are the gospel messengers, ambassadors of the heavenly kingdom, and proclaimers of salvation.
Don’t forget that! Our purpose is so intricately tied to our identity as God’s church, God’s people, and his dwelling place. We united will bow, God will be our God, and he will dwell among us, and we will be his people.
We are united today to remind one another of the coming eternity, and it will be glorious and without sin and death. Let this be a reminder to keep laboring and worshipping together as one.
