The Fall
Genesis 3, Romans 5:16
Reading the fall of Adam and Eve is crushing to us. We can often read this with dread because we know the brokenness brought in through this disobedience too well. We feel it daily with the news, the friend who gossiped about us, our fight with our mom, and the constant unrest we feel.
The story of Adam and Eve is difficult because we are passive and turn away from injustice. Every time we lie, gossip, hold a grudge, or cut off a friend from anger, we repeat the story of Adam and Eve’s sin. We are too fickle in our feelings, letting them drown us in forgetfulness and choose our flesh. It hurts to read Genesis 3 because we resonate with it.
BUT.
God is so much bigger than that. When he set forth creation, he knew how passive and forgetful we would be. He knew we would disobey and break the world with the weight of our sins. Yet, he promises the destruction of that slithering enzyme and redemption for all creation.
PRAISE THE LORD FOR THAT.
Could you take a moment to confess right now? Confess to God all your sin. Adam and Eve quickly passed their sin off instead of confessing and repenting. Let us not be the same. Jesus calls us to repent and believe in the gospel; could we do that today?
Then, take a moment to praise God for the forgiveness, mercy, and grace he offers so freely to you right now.
Once, the man picked fruit out of disobedience and left such a fallen world.
Now, we look to the coming Kingdom, where there is the Tree of Life with leaves that heal the nations (Revelation 22:2), and we should thank God for such a promise we know he will fulfill.
