Jehovah Sabaoth

Exodus 15:1-18, Amos 4:13, Ephesians 6:10-19

Jehovah Sabaoth means the LORD of hosts. Hosts means a large number of people or things. God is over armies, multitudes and because he is Lord of all them, he conquers any and all opposition. Most of us have never been to war, nor felt the need for multitudes to come to our aid - in a physical way. But as Paul writes in Ephesians we do not fight “against flesh and blood, but against rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places” (Ephesians 6:12). How comforting is it to know that our God is the One who conquers all? Who calls upon legions to ensure his will of victory for his people, for his glory?

Easter being just a few short weeks ago, I can’t think of a better name to remember God than in the moments of remember Christ victory over sin and death. This victory is not just a past one on the cross nor just a future one in Jesus’ return, but is today. Today we have victory over that shame you cling to, that sin that feels unbeatable, that valley that seems to long. Jesus has victory over all those things because God has always been and always will be Jehovah Sabaoth, the LORD of Hosts.
