King

Psalms 47:6-7, Revelation 17:14, Revelation 19:16

There were 42 kings of Israel and Judah throughout the Old Testament. There have been 46 United States presidents. There are currently nearly 300 head of state leaders throughout the world. The Bible used the word “king” 2800 times. Many of these uses are not referring to God. These are just a few statistics. There have and will be countless more kings and rulers in the world.

These leaders have power, influence, and impact on our countries and world. It is important to stay up to date with what the leader of your country is doing or saying. If we are not careful though it can be easy to put too much value, hope, or trust in our world leaders. Our joy or happiness can be dictated by what they say or do. Our perspective of the world can be at the hands of those who we elect or obtain positions of power. But this is not the way we ought to live.

Take a second to read the passages of Scripture again.

God, Lord Jesus, is King over all of the earth. Revelation tells us that He is King of kings and Lord of lords.

We are not to live under the hope or trust of a politician, a president, king, or other ruler. They will fail, they are broken, they will let us down. Yet still we get so caught up in who they are or what they do. Scripture is clear. God is King over all of the earth. Those kings, leaders, lords that we are tempted to follow, yeah, Jesus is King of those kings. They ultimately bow to him. Church, let us not get it mixed up, we have one King, one Lord who is worth our trust and hope. That is God alone.

These leaders and rulers technically have authority over us, whether earned or taken, that is their position over their societies. If God is King of kings and Lord of lords then that means He has authority over all leaders. God has ultimate authority. He is the ultimate authority.

Church, let us orient our lives to the leadership, Lordship, and guidance of the true King. Let us put our trust and hope in the one true Lord. Let us follow and be obedient to the one true and everlasting authority.

Do you need to reorient to make God King and Lord in all aspects of your life? How do you need to align your life under His authority?
