Leaders of the Bible: Timothy

I think it’s safe to say that each one of us has insecurities or inabilities that we feel like hinder us from God’s purposes. Maybe you feel like you’re too young, or too old, too quiet, too loud, too “fill in the blank here” to be used by God. We all have things we fear will hinder us from the great purpose God has for us, but our inadequacies and inabilities shouldn’t keep us from being available to God. 

The enemy would love for us to dwell on our weaknesses, but isn’t it God who tells Paul, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” God, the one who can raise people from the dead, who set the mountains into existence, who commands the winds and the waves, isn't afraid of our weakness, he welcomes it. God who formed you in your mothers womb, who knew your name before you even existed, who wrote for you all the days of your life before there was one, delights in your inabilities because that’s when His power is on display for all to see. 

In the garden, the serpent is the one that whispers to Eve, “but did God actually say that?” Just like Timothy, we are all a little too young, too immature, too whatever to accomplish God’s purpose for our lives, but that’s the whole point. As the church, we should boast ever more gladly in our weaknesses because that’s when we get to see God move.
