Sermon on the Mount: Matthew 6:25-34
Matthew 6: 25-34, Genesis 3: 14-19
This is one of my favorite passages in the bible. Someone once said, “The anxieties of tomorrow, distract you from God's past faithfulness.” As someone who struggles with anxiety constantly, I had to really process through all that this passage is speaking. Because anxiety is real, but it was never the intentional design. Before the fall, we lived in satisfaction. We lived in peace. When the fall occurred, our eyes were opened to the short-comings, worries, and realities (Genesis 3:14-19). We still live in those things today (obviously modern day technology has changed our interactions but you get it).
We can experience the love of Christ through how he loves the earth. He feeds the birds, nature, and satisfies everything they could need. We can experience His peace in how He is the provider of our needs.
He combats our anxiety with His love. It never comes up short. It never under-delivers. It never leaves us in mystery. It IS unwavering, honest, and consistent.
At the end of it he ends with a verse that I deeply encourage you to memorize (V34): Therefore don’t worry about tomorrow, because tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
Live in the truth that you cannot control tomorrow, nor should you worry about it. Believe that today God has gifted you with the things you need, and it will sustain you. This passage isn’t to dismiss your anxiety, but to help you believe in depth that God cares about you.
