A Song of Hope
Isaiah 25
If there is one thing this generation needs, it’s hope.
Hope for the wars that seem to rage on.
Hope for the hurting, the ostracized, the marginalized, the outcasts.
Hope for those in need.
Hope for those who are sick, suffering, and lost.
It doesn’t take more than five minutes of scrolling social media or watching the news to see the destruction that’s coming for our world; however, as believers, we know that victory is ours and triumph will come. Isaiah uses his poems to reveal the judgment that comes with human rebellion and the redemption that will come in the New Jerusalem. There is real judgment, but there is also real salvation found in Christ.
We know God, His character, and His being. He is the one who is a refuge for the poor and needy (v.4a). He is the shelter from the storm (v.4b). It is God who makes all things new, and it is God who will heal the brokenness of the human heart.
Isaiah worships God because He knows that although death and destruction are knocking at the door, one day, God will end death forever. There will soon be a day when God Himself will be with us to wipe every tear, and there will be no more crying or pain (Revelation 21:5). As Paul says, we can count it as joy, my brothers and sisters when we meet trials of various kinds because we know the testing of our faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing (James 1:2-5).
Would today's passage lead us to worship the one who provides hope? God has pardoned each of us from the judgment we deserve, and our hearts and voices should sing His praises in reverence for His sacrifice.
