Intro to the Psalms

Psalms is a book of songs about praise and lament. Filled with poems, this book is primarily written by King David of Israel. With some other writers and poets sprinkled throughout, this book is known for its worship and prayer to the God of Israel starting from the times of Moses, and to our benefit, they still apply to us today. We can read these Psalms knowing that the character of God endures and sustains FOREVER, just like his Word.

What you’ll notice as you read through the Psalms chosen for the next couple of weeks is that they tend to meet you where you’re at. We know it might be scary, but we believe that embracing the good and hard parts of life allows us to experience it to the full. The poets in this book don’t shy away from crying out to God, bringing their fears, lies, and sin to the throne of God. You might feel exposed and known, embrace the things God is teaching you through the Psalms and why.

Is it hard for you to be vulnerable with God? We can look to the book of Psalms to inspire us to dive deeper into God’s truth for suffering and praise. Meditate on this verse in order to prepare your heart:

Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts!

Psalms 139: 23

We pray that you invite God to search your heart, that you learn more about who He is and why He is worthy of worship. No matter the circumstance.
