Psalm 3
To provide some context, in verses 1 and 2 as David says many foes are rising against him, he is speaking about his son and many of his friends who were currently leading a rebellion against him. That seems like a pretty good reason to feel as though the world is against you to be worried of what may come.
This posture does not last long however.
In verse 3, he says “But you, O LORD, are a shield about me, my glory, and the lifter of my head.” He immediately turns away from worry and fear due to the world and instead awe and reflection on who God is.
David goes on to credit the Lord in a few more statements, saying that God has answered him, sustained him, struck David’s enemies, and that salvation belongs to God. God is sustenance, the answer, hope, and protection.
God is greater than any affliction we may be facing here on earth. We say that, but do we believe it? David is showing us his belief that God is greater.
Now, our circumstances may be different than David’s, but the premise remains the same; we will face challenges and hardships on Earth. Will we react by living in stress and worry, or will we react by trusting God and relying on Him?
Church, let us be a people who trust God and turn to him in all circumstances. Let us not just think it, let us believe it and live it out.
