Psalm 121

Psalm 121

Fall semester of my senior year of college, I found myself in a place where I was crying out to God. I found myself wondering where my help was going to come from. While it may not sound like a big deal, I was processing what to do after college and felt more stressed than I ever had before. I was so focused on this decision that I was stressed about it daily and was losing sleep at night. I found myself in a place where I was asking questions like “when will this become clear?” “Why isn’t God answering my prayers?” “Where will my help come from?”

David asks the same question in Psalm 121 and immediately provides an answer throughout the rest of his poem. Our help comes from our Lord and Creator. Our keeper will not stop, he will not rest. He will keep us in our coming and going as we proceed through life.

Days went by as I processed where the Lord was taking me in the future. Some days I was lost in stress, forgetting the truth. Some days I was able to set my eyes on the Lord and trust that he was going to protect my coming and going. Those days were hopeful, joyful, and energetic as I held hope for what the Lord was going to do.

The Lord will help us always, until the end.

If we can set our eyes on this truth in the hard times, we will be able to persist with hope and trust rather than stress, doubt, and trying to control ourselves. Trust in the Lord, for he will keep your life.
