Day 12
Philippians 2:1-18
Often, especially at this time of the year, we may start to feel “burnt out,” but I wonder if what is happening is what Paul describes here in Philippians 2. In Ancient Greek and Jewish traditions, wine would be poured out as an offering during sacrificial ceremonies. Paul here is saying that he is happy to be poured out sacrificially for the sake of God being glorified and the faith of the Philippian church.
What if we more often asked God to fill us up and then, with glad hearts, intentionally poured ourselves out as offerings pleasing to God? Being poured out is still tiring. Being poured out is still hard, but it is within the bounds of healthy work and rest rhythms, and we get tired.
Let our tiredness be a testament to God’s use of us. Let that bring praise and rejoicing to us today. Let us rejoice in being poured out as an offering to God and for the sake of others.
